Resist the temptation of the Occult

Event: Paul and Silas in Prison

S - Scripture
Acts 16 v. 16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were meet by a slave girl who had a spirit of Divination and brought her owners much gain by soothsaying.

O – Observation
The lure and Danger of the occult. This verse highlights the lure of the occult. Money. Power. Influence. These worldly attractive things mask the reality and the Danger. 1st) The reality. Short term vs. long term. Life today vs. life in eternity. Our life here may seem long, but eternity is forever. Remember Psalm 144 v. 4, "Man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow." Which leads to the 2nd danger. Dabbling, practicing it the occult leads you away from the truth, leads you away from Jesus, and that will impact your after life in a MOST HORRIFIC WAY. God makes it clear in Deuteronomy 18 v. 10b-12a, "Anyone who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcery, or a charmer, or a medium or a wizard or a necromancer. For whoever does those thing are an abomination to the Lord."

A - Application
Am I resisting the temptation and fascination of the occult?

P - Prayer
Jesus, Help me to see the TRUTH. Help me to help those that don't know the truth. Love Will
