Always check your motives

S – Scripture

Mark 11 v. 28 And they (scribes and elders) said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this ability to do them?”

 

O – Observation

This question was asked to trap Jesus. The scribes and elders wanted to get rid of Jesus. Why? Because he
was dramatically changing their world. They had positions of Power and Respect. Their egos’s were highly inflated.  Pride. That is the thing that God hates.  Proverbs 6 v. 16-17, “The Lord hates haughty eyes.” Since their question was driven out of pride and not a sincere desire to learn the truth, Jesus answers them with a question that they couldn’t answer.
