Test Me

Test Me
Guest Blog by Gary Riedel

S - SCRIPTURE:
Malachi 3:10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And
thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

O - OBSERVATION:
This verse from Malachi comes during a time when God’s people were suffering from blight,
insects, drought, and poor crops. The people had intermarried with heathen spouses which often
resulted in idolatry. Malachi, God’s messenger, came and accused them of robbing God, or withholding their full tithes from their offerings. At that God inspired Malachi to respond with verse 10. God wants us to trust Him enough to give Him, His full portion of what He has given to us!

A - APPLICATION: Well, it’s early in a new year, what better way to begin then to remind ourselves to cheerfully give to God a rightful portion of what He has given to us. In Matthew chapter 6 God tells us not to worry about food drink, or what to wear. He tells us not to worry about tomorrow, “But to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto us!” In Psalm 139:16, He even tells us that while we were yet in our mother’s womb, He knew the days He would give us. So, let’s trust in the Lord with all our heart, and rely not on our own understanding, Proverbs 3:5. You see He has our life in His Almighty, All-knowing, Kind,Merciful, loving and Gracious hands.

P - PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in Your Holy Word You give us all of the instruction we need to live a life for You. Forgive us when we are selfish, lead us to repentance so that we can be restored and as 1 John 1:9 says, “Be cleansed from all unrighteousness, and serve You as You intended. In Jesus Name, Amen
